# Two days, one yellow table

Original fictional source notes, written for this example. Bellwether, Dock House, Rowan and June are invented. These are not a record of a real trip. All narrative facts and direct speech in both editions must come from this file. No existing photographs were used.

## The weekend

- Narrator: Rowan. Companion: June, a friend. No ages, surnames or further relationship history supplied.
- Place: Bellwether, an invented small coastal village. They stay for one night in a room at the invented Dock House.
- No calendar date or year is specified. Saturday and Sunday only.

## Saturday

- They arrive by bus late in the morning. It is raining.
- They have one overnight bag each. The room key has a wooden tag.
- The room has a yellow table by a window facing the harbour. There are two white cups; one has a chipped handle. The window has an old curved latch.
- Rowan had written “walk to the far pier” in a notebook before the trip. They do not reach the far pier that weekend.
- They buy three oranges in a brown paper bag from a small grocery and make tea in the room.
- Rowan peels one orange in a long strip. It breaks before reaching the bottom. June leaves the broken peel in a loose coil on the table.
- They sit at the yellow table while rain runs down the window. A blue boat is visible in the harbour. No one rows it or speaks from it.
- Rowan makes three unsuccessful line drawings of the blue boat. The third is wider than the first. June says, “That one might float.” This is the only Saturday quotation.
- The grocery receipt goes into Rowan's notebook. It has an orange stain. Its prices and any shop name are not supplied.
- The rain stops in the late afternoon. They walk along the near quay, looking at ropes and the blue boat. Then they return to the room. No named cafe, meal, shopkeeper or other encounter is supplied.

## Sunday

- The morning is clear. The harbour looks silver from the window.
- They split the second orange at the yellow table and drink tea from the same two cups.
- June says, “We can come back when it's raining.” This is the only Sunday quotation. It is not a booking or a commitment to return on a given date.
- They walk along the near quay again. Rowan sees a striped pebble and leaves it on the quay. They do not collect shells or stones.
- They pack the third orange, still whole, in Rowan's bag.
- Before leaving the room, Rowan notices two faint cup rings on the yellow table.
- They take the bus home in the afternoon. Rowan brings the stained receipt and the notebook with the three boat drawings. No further destination or event is supplied.

## Intended emotional reading

A quiet, slightly funny weekend shared by two friends. The table, not the unfinished walk, becomes its centre. Reflection may select and connect the stated details, but must not invent a life event, a relationship milestone, grief, dialogue, a meal or a memory.

## Imagery available for this designed example

No photographs. Six original SVG illustrations can depict the supplied details. Each is an illustration rather than a documentary image or an actual map.
