Optional tool setup

Google documents reusable instructions in the SKILL.md format. Availability differs between the Gemini app and Workspace, and each surface needs its own setup.

Gemini app / Workspace

Where Skills is available, copy or import the skill using that surface's documented setup.

Separate setup

Gemini app and Workspace skills do not sync. Set up the skill separately on each available surface you use.

Approvals

Some Gemini Tasks may require confirmation. Check current eligibility and permissions before real account work; the kit's stops are instructions, not enforced approval settings.

Availability and changes

On 13 Oct 2026, Google said the Gemini app Skills rollout had begun and Workspace rollout was delayed. Personal Gems move to Settings on 17 Nov and remain usable; later business and education retirement milestones are conditional.

Gemini Tasks requires a personal account, age 18+, Google AI Pro or Ultra, Keep Activity and Personal Intelligence opt-in. It is not available to work or school accounts or in the EEA, Nigeria, Switzerland or UK.
